Yup .. I send in engine oil, gear oil and coolant sample to HO Penn in CT.
This year's gear oil sample test came back as the oil had lost some viscosity. Guidelines for my gear is SAE 30.

What are the typical results of coolant and gear oil analysis?Yup .. I send in engine oil, gear oil and coolant to HO Penn in CT
Gear oil analysis will give you NA for salt which will alert you to a fault in the gear cooler along with copper, nickel & brass also from cooler degradation. And then there's metals wear from the components of the gear.

Parts guy says he's sees a number of these sensors go bad each season and says guys won't spend the money to replace because it's so expensive. He said you normally will know your coolant level is low some other way before the sensor even goes off. I never got the price of the replacement. Will reevaluate next spring.

Agree 110% that the value comes from trends, yes.Sisu22 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 10:14 am I send my oil and gear oil samples to Blackstone in Indiana. I think, and have read, the value really comes from trends with these tests, over a series of time. Not sure I'd rely on one from a boat during purchase, except with the deal killers like salt water in the oil or really high metals.
Yeah, plenty enough..
Yes, I am familiar with the water witch. (No relation to my ex wife )Tree wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 2:33 am Dag. I couldn’t find a float switch here in the U.K. to fit my shower sump so I fitted a water witch. It’s a non mechanical switch and takes up a tiny amount of room, maybe 2” high by about 1/2” thick.
