Question: Does anybody send in a tranny fluid sample for analysis?
(I don't)

Changed transmission fluid and filter as well, noticed the tranny dip stick had rubbed against something
Yup .. I send in engine oil, gear oil and coolant sample to HO Penn in CT.

This year's gear oil sample test came back as the oil had lost some viscosity. Guidelines for my gear is SAE 30.

What are the typical results of coolant and gear oil analysis?
(I would probably do it if buying a used boat)

Gear oil analysis will give you NA for salt which will alert you to a fault in the gear cooler along with copper, nickel & brass also from cooler degradation. And then there's metals wear from the components of the gear.

Coolant analysis could alert you to NA, oil, metals or just the simple breakdown in the coolant properties.

Though we all do fluid analysis at purchase it is of little value unless there is a God forbid that is caught. Fluid analysis has its most value when done annually or at the very least biannually to determine running trends.

Yes, found it:

Parts guy says he's sees a number of these sensors go bad each season and says guys won't spend the money to replace because it's so expensive. He said you normally will know your coolant level is low some other way before the sensor even goes off. I never got the price of the replacement. Will reevaluate next spring.

Probably this sensor:

Thx, I am glad somebody are more anal than me.

I have the gallon of old tranny fluid left after yesterdays annual service, maybe I should send a sample in.
The old coolant however went to the recycling place 3 weeks ago, it looked pristine, bright orange as always, no corrosion, no milky mixture, no nothing except a brand new look.

I send my oil and gear oil samples to Blackstone in Indiana. I think, and have read, the value really comes from trends with these tests, over a series of time. Not sure I'd rely on one from a boat during purchase, except with the deal killers like salt water in the oil or really high metals.

Agree 110% that the value comes from trends, yes.
When purchasing a boat however, you don't have the benefit of a trend, unless the seller volunteer to share all his, or her records with you, if he even bothered to change the oil. (Some don't and have no clue about internal anodes, annual coolant change, etc.)
Every time I buy a used boat, oil and sometimes tranny fluid samples will be sent in for analyses. Never tested coolant however.

I have noticed in the past that the air condition condensate ends up in the bilge after overflowing the drip tray.
Had planned to instal a dedicate hose and a Y coupling to splice into the A/C water drain.
Looked closer at the AC yesterday and found it already has a condensate drain line, going to the shower sump:

It was clogged however: Removed the end and blew into it, problem solved.
The float switch for the shower sump is missing in action, need to find a replacement, if it is not available, then a whole new sump. (Brand name?)

Looks like a Johnson

but there is also a similar looking Attwood.

Noticed the AC was 10,000 BTU. Is that a factory size, or a refit?

Pulled off the shower pump lid and cleaned it, still can't read the maker's name
or the model number.

My factory AC is also 10,000 btu which seems huge for that boat.

Yeah, plenty enough..
My AC has a Florida label, I thought maybe it was dealer installed as the boat was sold by a Florida dealer in Jupiter.

Dag. I couldn’t find a float switch here in the U.K. to fit my shower sump so I fitted a water witch. It’s a non mechanical switch and takes up a tiny amount of room, maybe 2” high by about 1/2” thick.

Fisher Price 2
Hull Number AUL28489L900
Yanmar 6LP-STE
Built in Portsmouth RI, USA - Berthed in Portsmouth Hampshire, United Kingdom.

Yes, I am familiar with the water witch. (No relation to my ex wife  )

Not looking to replace just the float switch in the shower sump, but the whole sump unit, including pumps, switch, etc.

Best price so far on the Johnson, same as original @ $89, but there is a contender with nice reviews and simpler with a built in float switch in the pump for less money:

Better the devil you know, and the Johnson box will fit the screw pattern, hoses, etc and it comes with a 3 year warranty.
(Would be happy to pay much more for a lifetime warranty and a super high quality product, but not holding my breath that there is such a thing. )

The lube oil lab report is back from Blackstone.
(It took a while, they could not find the data sheet I included in the shipment.
Called them up, they tried to sniff the oil sample to find out what it was..)

Been running naked for a few years without the Albin 28 Decals on the sides.
That changed today:
Bought blue and red stickers on ebay and mounted.
(I believe the original decals were green/red as the boat had green boot stripes,
and green interior)
I changed the boot stripe and bottom paint to blue, hence the new decals:

Bought on eBay, but they came in pieces

Pain in the rear to instal, but it kind of worked.
