Bad news: Faulty Reverse Gear in our Albin-25
It seems to have caused our shifter problem. It's going to take more than a new shift mechanism to fix everything. Question: is reverse gear a recurring problem in Albin-25's ? If so, mine will be on the market very soon.

Obviously, I'm not there so I can't examine anything, but I would suspect it's the other way around - A faulty or misadjusted shift mechanism which prevented the transmission from going all the way into gear probably did in the transmission. That same transmission was used on several Volvo engines in many different boats and they don't have a history of being a weak linkNickScheuer wrote:It seems to have caused our shifter problem.
If you don't think you can get yours overhauled, there is a used one on eBay right now - Evidently, that one outlasted the engine

At one point, possibly the day before, I remember getting a very brief whif of burned rubber, and thinking that the Volvo-Penta reverse mechanism incorporates some sort of rubber cone.

Oh, and BTW, I appreciate your observation as to what may have caused what. Your scenario makes more sense.
