End of Season totals

I topped off the other day and will be pulling the boat tomorrow. We thought about leaving it in until Dec. but with all the holiday activities and work it's just sitting most of the time. Next weekend will probably be 70 degrees!

395 gallons / 120 hrs. = 3.29
Average fuel cost per gallon - 2.96

Gotta love a diesel.

Thanks chiief!. I was in the mouth of the Patapsco the other day. I was trolling and picked up a 28". There were alot of boats out there.

John, those are great numbers. My Peninsular numbers are very similar also. I could not be happier with how she runs and those performance statistics!

albin 28 new 310 peninsular....
based on that, the flowscan meter seems to read quite high. it computes fuel consumed and it computed almost 400 gallons.
so my indicated fuel flow, nominally 9-10gph @ 2900 and 15-16 kts may be a at least 20% lower. there are instructions in the flow scan manual for calibration.
in any case, its still good reference for trimming.
2900 rpm seems to be the 'sweet spot'. and 15 kts is quite gentlemanly.:)

Tomcat,
Your overall average of 3.2 is great! But, I question the close to 130 gallon difference in reported vs. actual consumption.
Are others around experiencing the same results?
On calm to light chop conditions I run 27-2800. Boat seems happy. In rougher situations I run around 2400 to keep dry.

...i forgot to record a 30 gal fill.
so it looks like about 300/84= 3.7 gph avg or so.
looks like the Flowscan fuel flow gage is still reading at least 10% high. so i recalibrated it this morning and took a test ride. checked out okay. nice day on the peconic.

did a little radar work. checking best gain levels to pick up bouys, shore lines and boats. not sure i'd like to have to do it for real in the fog, but its a good skill to work on.

2008:
303 gallons / 72 hrs. = 4.21 gph
Average cost per gallon - 4.20

May/June we hardly used the boat because of moving from the shore shack. The interesting thing is that I intentionally ran slower this year to conserve fuel. Didn't seem to make much of a difference.
I ran 48 hrs. less and spent about 100.00 more. OR, by running 48 hrs. less at 17.10 per hr. I saved 820.00.

I paid 400.00 more to keep the boat at a marina instead of the shore shack. (2000 vs. 1600) So, in the long run I actually did save money this year.

And I thought the economy was bad...

Right now I'm at 450 gal / 130 eng hrs = 3.5 gph

I thought I would be at 150 hrs already. One reason why I'm not is that the 28 is so comfortable we ended up doing a lot more overnighters, weekends, etc. as opposed to day runs. Also, offshore fishing was not at all good this year so we did not bother running offshore as much as we have in the past.

Now it's up to mother nature if I will hit 150 in the last month of the season...

It really depends on how you run the boat. Alot of my cruising on the local rivers includes 6 m.p.h. zones. That keeps the average low.
Perhaps yours would be double?

3.82 Gallons / hour
I figure 4 weeks left before I haul it to get the average cost per gallon down. Diesels down under $3.00 on the Bay. Gotta get boating.

Season totals:

203 glallons, 43 hours = 4.7 GPH average
Fuel price High of $5.25 and a low of $3.49

I know I did not use my boat much this year because of family obligations, but you guys make me look really bad. How in the world can you put 150 hours on a boat????????? I'm there almost every weekend and sometimes a night during the week and the most I ever put on a boat is 72 hours. I must be doing something wrong. :shock:
