Manual Bilge Pump Removal
Just curious, has anyone ever used the manual bilge pump (hand powered) on their Albin? I’m thinking about doing away with mine because it would be the perfect speaker location. Just want to make sure I’m not making a mistake.

Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
Is it required by the USCG? Not that anyone would or could ever use it. I've heard it referred to as the heart attack pump. Does yours even work?

Used the Whale pump on the WillieC often. (We dumped ice melt into the bilge before we got smart and reused it for the terlet.)

Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
I can’t find any requirement for it. After having 20 plus boats between my family and I over the years, the 28 and the 31 are the only two to have it. At 20 years old I doubt it works

When all else fails, that pump will work. You may need that one day more then a speaker.

Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
I just discovered I have a manual bilge pump on our new boat. Now I just have to find the handle. It might as well be a speaker.

Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
JB, you had a Trojan F32, didn't you? Ours had a very cool brass manual bilge pump in the starboard hanging locker. I can't remember if it worked.
This thread made me try the manual pump on Valentine today. I could hear a suction noise and it dribbled a little water. If there were more water in the bilge, I'm pretty sure it would work.

Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
“We” - my family had an 85 11 meter international series with 400 Cummins power. No manual bilge pump in that boat. That was one nice boat with that power and the delta conic hull. I did pull the lid open on the 31 for the pump and I thought I’d never get it to go back in to the hole when I tried to close it . It’s definitely seen better daysNancy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 15, 2023 8:14 pm JB, you had a Trojan F32, didn't you? Ours had a very cool brass manual bilge pump in the starboard hanging locker. Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
Yes, our pump cover likes to be handled gently as well.

Re: Manual Bilge Pump Removal
My 06 flush deck had a plastimo hand pump. The bellows was dried out and cracked. Had my boatyard source a new one. It was back ordered. It finally arrived but before the yard could install it, the boatyard had a tragic fire and burned to the ground taking several boats and customers cars with it. Needless to say my pump got lost in the fire. Boatyard reordered and just installed this spring. I’d rather have a back up that not. Could make the difference until help arrives!
