. The vent is in the same location as the old one: immediately forward of the pump-out fitting, which is immediately forward of the mid-ship cleat. We had enlarge the opening as the old vent was only 1/2".
Good info, thx.
Got a picture of the vent?

Nancy, I'm curious, did Peggy Hall recommend her per usual two vents on the waste tank .. one to each side of the hull?

We used Ronco for all of our plastic tank needs back in my boatbuilding days. Great company to work with. I like the idea of a 1" dia. vent. It's easier to stick a hose in, so you can flush the tank while at the pumpout station.

Not a direct angle on it, but hopefully good enough.

Hi Kevin --

Yes, she did, but it just wasn't practical. She gave it her blessing anyway.

Started another project today:
Had indications of moisture intrusion in the screw holes holding the plastic
trim piece on the aft end of the hardtop:
Removed it and the 5 nuts, washers and bolts. Sure enough it looked a bit ugly, but nothing major.

Spent an hour removing old caulk.

Will keep cleaning it up, then dry and repair with epoxy and reinstall.
Been waiting a long time for a full week of dry weather and it finally came.
Indications of the above problem was rusty screw heads underneath the hardtop as the screws are upside down with the cap-nuts on top.

Where do you think the water is coming from? Someplace upstream of that trim piece?

We removed and re-bedded the handrails on top of the pilothouse because we didn't like the look of the underside. How are yours?

Nah, seems like the water came from the through bolted fasteners, the seal just failed. (If there was a seal or caulk/silicone applied from the factory)

Will check the handrails next, they are on the radar.

Found out why the trim piece was very dirty on the “inside”:

A white track was screwed on to hold the canvas “doors”:
CE22C4DB-14F5-44DF-9AE4-CCE18D47C9DD.jpeg
The screws went through and protruded on the inside lifting the trim piece and breaking the seal: Dirt and (salt) water had free access for 20 years:

48D298EB-B567-402C-BA8B-B102562508CD.jpeg
Ground down the screw tips and used a block sander to smooth the entire piece.
Next step is to dry out the holes through the hardtop, sand the core (bare under the trim piece, only partial sandwich construction, should be easy to repair.)

Stay tuned.

In the middle of the above project I was going for a ride in the sun, but got the exhaust alarm before I even left the dock.
Looks like the water pump is not doing it’s job and lots of dripping from the shaft.
Now in the process of changing the pump, but need to soak the nuts and studs overnight in Liquid Wrench, then will try the surgery tomorrow.
Got a new pump at home, but not the gear/wheel.
Question? Is it hard to get off, do I need a gear puller?

Grip the gear in some soft jaws on a vise and simply undo the nut. I’ve got two also but rebuild mine when needed. If you do that or get a shop to do it, just make sure the retainers in the shaft seals are stainless steel as they come with mild steel as standard.

Ok, will do.
Now looking at getting another pump, but a complete one so I can do a “hot swap” at some remote island in the Bahamas. I also carry a spare starter and a spare starter solenoid.
Yanmar parts are outrageously expensive here in the colonies.
Found this one on eBay, but located in Sweden, $20 shipping seems reasonable.

Dag, I just did this job last week. Purchased a gear puller from harbor freight. Removed the nut with battery impact with no issues. That gear did not come off easy, lots of pressure with puller before it popped off.

Ok, thx.
Will be prepared for a trip to Harbor Freight.

Got the model number of your gear puller, or a picture?
(In case they have 43 different types. )
