Re: Insurance
BoatUS insurance is through GEICO. My boat will be 50 years old in 2021. So far have not heard anything about my coverage with them being dropped. My policy renews in April, so we'll see. I kept my policy in force all year even though it hasn't been in the water or gone anywhere since February

Re: Insurance
Jeremy, I hadn't looked at the boat until now. Gorgeous! Lotta teak, but gorgeous! With that insane fridge, you could stock it with enough beer to stay away from a dock for weeks . . . assuming there's a way to power it.

Re: Insurance
Yes it is. I told them no more. If it doesn’t work out then I’ll just move onto the next one. There’s a nice Viking 48 in ny for less money. This 46 has been nicely upgraded tho

Re: Insurance
I’m assuming you have done your research on this. That 46 is a great hull. Areas we experience problems was the foredeck around the windlass and the cockpit around the fighting chair as well as rod holder locations. We fixed it all but it was a job. The 48 is basically the same hull but they are said to get a little better speed and economy. I talked to Bill Healy about this quite a bit at one of the Viking rendezvous.
The 48 also may have better engine access. From memory you can go in from the cockpit or the galley on them. On the 46 the only option is down through the salon hatch which is ok but just kind of a pain.
We bought ours needing everything and it was very similar to the one you are looking at when we sold it but it was 892 power and around 1,000 hr. We got $135,000 for it in 2014. 1984 galley up

Re: Insurance
So we are back on track with the deal. I do like the 48 but it would mean a different slip which I don’t love

Re: Insurance
Have had BOATUS for my previous boats and the high premium paid off when a huge maple fell and crushed my 31 Tiara Open four days after it went on the hard in my local boat yard for the winter...they were great to deal with - boat was totaled. When I went to them for my Albin they wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount - went to a local insurance agent who gave me four quotes from various companies - ended up with Safeco - very reasonable for an agreed upon total loss value - so far so good but thankfully have not had to use them for any type of loss.
Good luck!
