Dehumidifier anybody?

Just now starting to look:
1) Fort Lauderdale, Florida, hot and humid 9 out of 12 months.
2) Been using the boat’s A/C while docked, but seems like a waste.
3) Looking for small dehumidifier with a drain hose.
4) Most small units have a puny tank, no drain hose.
5) Any ideas or recommendations?

There may be some choke point where the catchment system drains into the reservoir, like a funnel. Perhaps you could rig a hose up there?

Just drill a hole in the tank and fit a drain hose so it goes straight down the sink?

The ac unit on my 31 has a dehumidifier setting that works excellent. I would check your ac manual for directions on turning it on.

Eva-Dry based in Tampa. Works great but you need to drill a hole in the reservoir epoxy in and fitting and drain it into the galley sink. Based in Punta Gorda Fl. i use the EDV-2200 works great. Tom A

Yes, I may get a little $45 unit and drill hole and attach a hose.
Just measured my A/C consumption, 11.6 KW in 24 hours.
(Set at 78 degrees F.)
That would be about $45 per month in electric cost per month based on $0.13 kw/hrs, had it running the last 2 months, there is $90.
Not sure if it has a dehumidifier setting, but if it does, it will still drain in the bilge, not a good solution, better to drain in the galley sink.
Will keep researching models, and will look at the EDV-2200.

Ordered this one, mainly because of the numerous good ratings.
None of the small units have have a drain-hose, might as well make my own.
Also ordered a hygrometer with a Bluetooth transmission to the iPhone.

I know that you're in FL & I am in MA, but I leave my air conditioning unit on all season long plus two AC fridges and an AC fan all for roughly $55.00 to $65.00 on metered electric for the 5 month season. Today the reverse cycle heat is on ..

Often when I'll be away from the boat for a couple of days, I do set the air conditioner to the dehumidify setting to save on electric consumption.

The condensate drain should be plumbed to your shower sump for evacuation and not draining into the bilge. If it's not plumbed this way, it's a pretty easy project.

Yeah, should do just that.
Never paid much attention to it before as we only used the AC a few times in the past: The condensate drained into a pan, which had no hole or hose in it, but found a plug which I pulled so it now drains into the bilge.
From there I pump the drain water manually into the shower pump with a small fixed 12 volt sump pump I installed a few years ago. The end result is the same, just more work.

You could move to the desert where hot dry summers start in April and end in November. 23% humidity today. Official recorded rainfall total for Phoenix April to date 0.24 inches. Zero rainfall in April, June, & October. Yep, we're a third of the way though October & highs are still in the 90s.

Nah, I am a salt water kind of guy, no desert living for me..
Grew up in the old country with dry air, we had humidifiers in the house, always blowing out steam so your lips and skin would not dry in the winter.
Personally I love it hot and humid, but too much work always cleaning headliners and bulkheads in the boat from mold and mildew.
A/C of course helps, but if I could dry the air with a simple plug-in machine, that would be better.
Will report before and after numbers, stay tuned.

Ok, got the dehumidifier today, and the hygrometer with Bluetooth transmission:
In a few minutes the humidity went down, but temperature went up as soon as I closed the door/hatch:

The dehumidifier fits good in the galley sink, thought of just drilling a hole through the bottom and let water drain out without collecting.
