Re: Stainless Exhaust Elbow - Yanmar
Cleaning up the mating surface of that flange is key to no leaks. I spent most of an hour cleaning it up with a sharp scrapper and the most useful tool was the blade of a pocket knife. You also need 3 hands to hold everything in place while installing the clamp so that gasket does not move. Sounds like paste is the way to go, wish I had some then. Dry elbow failed after 8 years and about 1400 hrs. I had already replaced the wet one at 1000 hrs as PM. Wish I had done the dry elbow at the same time. Things got very exciting when it let loose while on plane at 3400rpm.

Re: Stainless Exhaust Elbow - Yanmar
Ok, good advice, thx Gentlemen:
Will get a new gasket Monday and exhaust paste as well.
3 or 4 hands no problem either.
Replaced the elbow at 1000 hours, or 60 hours ago, but had water leak on the bottom of the elbow, installed a new 4” hose, no more water leak, but instead exhaust leak.
Now looking for a reasonable priced piece of silicon hose but they will only sell in 3 feet lengths for $180.

Re: Stainless Exhaust Elbow - Yanmar
Good reminder.. Dry elbow failed after 8 years and about 1400 hrs.
Now that my exhaust system is apart, it would be an excellent time to do the dry elbow.
Will check tomorrow when picking up gasket at the Yanmar dealer.
Got exhaust paste and a piece of rubber hose today, can’t get the de-luxe silicone hose for less than too much money.

Good fit and happy customer?
Looked at the Yanmar prices for the same chunk of metal here in the US: $490.

Yeah, might as well replace the dry elbow, the bracket, the blanket and the clamps, all at the same time.
My boat deserves the same maintenance as a single engine helicopter:
1 hour of play for 10 hours of maintenance.

Re: Stainless Exhaust Elbow - Yanmar
Cool: I ordered the riser, or “dry elbow” plus new clamps, a bracket etc.
Got a 10% discount.
Also ordered a 1 foot silicone hose from another vendor.
(Can only get 3’ minimum length here in town @ $181 plus 7% sales tax. )

Did the Bracket123 Mounting Bracket fit?
Mine didn't fit no matter how I oriented it...so ended up using back the old yanmar one. Have to replace that shortly as it is nothing but rust. Would love to change it to the stainless steel bracket. I had returned it after it didn't fit.
