Re: Help me spec a new windlass
Cleats are 8”.
Highly recommend the location on deck next to chain locker hatches:
Gives you a fair lead through the chocks when using an anchor snubber line, or extra dock lines.

Re: Help me spec a new windlass
Thanks very much! When you have a chance, can you give me the length of the feet? I'm guessing 2".

Length of feet? Or width?
Try this link, but will measure next time I go aboard “Odin”.

Re: Help me spec a new windlass
Thanks for the Suncor link. That gives me what I'm looking for (length of feet - dimension D).

Cool, hope it works out, as my grandmother said: You can never have too many cleats Dear..

Re: Help me spec a new windlass
Love the new windlass and especially the handheld switch at the bow! I haven't anchored with it yet - just fed the rode in - but it's music to my ears. Gobbled up the line like nothing and never flinched at the splice.
We did some serious reinforcement to the pulpit. The old windlass was fastened through only the top layer, and it's a mystery why it never ripped out. I guess a 1/4" (+/-) skin is stronger than it looks. But we won't have to worry now.

Re: Help me spec a new windlass
Has anyone retrofitted a remote to an original Horizon windlass? I mostly singlehand and anchoring can be a pain as I run back and forth between the pulpit and wheelhouse.........

Re: Help me spec a new windlass
Wow, I feel your pain.. I mostly singlehand and anchoring can be a pain as I run back and forth between the pulpit and wheelhouse.........
I would think a solenoid and a remote can be fitted to any windlass.
We have the Lewmar 700 pictured above with a remote, anchor like a boss from the comfort of the wheel house and the chair.
(One time we got tangled up in a thunderstorm when we anchored, blowing 40, gusting 50+, raining sideways, visibility 0, we dropped the hook, laid out 80’ of chain, and the anchor held: We popped a beverage celebrating big anchor and remote controlled windlass. Wife thought this was her last hour on earth and promised to hug the anchor when it came back up. )

Re: Help me spec a new windlass
As Norseman said, it's only a connection to the solenoid. I installed the Lewmar 3-Button remote and it is a gem to have, especially that I am all chain so setting/adjusting the bridle with this is super handy, also for anchor washing, etc etc.
All it requires is mounting the receiver inside the boat and a few wire run connections to the solenoid (+) (-) (up) (down). And anything that can be installed without drilling a hole on the outside of the boat is always a win win. Here's a few pics and some test videos I put on YT from during the install.
