Been taking pictures of a melted float switch and noticed a nasty crack under the motor and next to the stern tube.
Not sure how deep it is, need to find out very soon.
Anybody else seen a similar crack?

Re: Ugly crack under the engine..
Dag, I know you'll want to check for yourself, but I'm almost positive you'll find that that crack is not integral to the hull. Early hulls were shipped with open keels. This was a bit of strange design IMO as it left the stern tube kind of flapping in the breeze. That's how ours was. In later models, the keel was filled from the front of the stern tube to the engine. When we pulled our engine in the fall of 2017, we retrofitted a support for the stern tube:
I hope this gives you a little peace of mind. I'm sure others will jump in.

Re: Ugly crack under the engine..
Thx Nancy, yeah that was good news.
Just some resin filler that cracked for whatever reason. (Perhaps even from production as it heated up when cured, then cracked when it hardened and cooled off.)
I will buy that:)

Re: Ugly crack under the engine..
Polyester resin shrinks as it hardens, and if too thick it WILL crack. But if it's just a 'filler" I wouldn't worry about it unless there's a corresponding crack on the outside.
You COULD fill it with more resin and glass over it. Not really necessary but it might make any prospective buyers a little happier.

Yeah, I could fill it but access is next to impossible, maybe if I removed the water pump and other pieces from the Starboard side of the engine.stmbtwle wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2019 11:24 am Polyester resin shrinks as it hardens, and if too thick it WILL crack. Looks like it is benign, will leave it for now.
