Window removal & replacement

Post by SCHUTZEE »

I need to remove the windows on my 31TE. The frames are peeling and I want to have them stripped and powder coated. I removed the interior and exterior screws, but the window still seems secure. Any ideas on how to remove them?

Schutzee,

I suspect the chaulking/sealer is what is holding your windows. If so care is needed to prevent breaking the windows, the stuff holds better than crazy glue sometimes.

Both Albin and the dealer who sold me the boat, Whitewater Marine, have ignored my emails asking for info. If I had a schematic of the cross section, it would help me figure out a way to cut the caulking that I assume is keeping them in.

Any suggestions?

Seems like it should be a quick answer for someone who knows. Have you tried calling the factory? Worth a try anyway.

The number there is 401-682-1600

Good luck!

We just had a new member, Mango, join the group. He lists his website as waterwaysystems.com.
Check it out and send him a welcome note.

Window removal

Post by Mango »

Most likely there is a quality marine adhesive holding the windows in. There is a product called Debond, Marine Formula that breaks down cured adhesives including 5200. Check out their website to find a local supplier.
http://www.marineformula.com/ Turns an eight hour window removal job into a couple of hours.

Powder Coating

Post by Mango »

When having older material powder coated, make sure they de-gas the frames before they shoot the powder on. A short time in the oven will help rid the aluminum of impurities that might come out through the paint.
