Vetus 50kgf oil seals

My shaft seals (2] on my bow thruster are leaking. I have the replacement ones, but am wondering how one goes about replacing them. It looks like u need a press in order to press out the bearing aeembly in order to get the seals in.

Am I correct, or is there another way?

Just pull the allen heads and remove the cover

It’s the 2 shaft seals that are located on the inside of the end cap.

Enlisted the help of my “go-to” vehicle mechanic - after careful consideration and a few whacks with a punch and hammer - was able to remove the bearing and then drive out both seals - just need to clean it all up and re-install. Then its on to trying to remove one of my broken off bolts for the raw water pump housing - broke off when I was loosening the housing to winterize -ugh!

Right, there is a shim and the two back-to-back seals behind the bearing. I did those seals (over 10 years ago) at the boatyard in one clip and did not have to use a press to get the bearing out, If I recall I just supported the cap and carefully tapped out the bearing...again, it was a decade+ ago but that is what memory serves......

Ah, look at that, we were typing at the same time. Exactly what I recall doing. Good to see memory is still functioning okay.
