Engine Air Intake Splash Guard

Post by SJR »

Was looking to find if anyone had any info or direction as to where to find a replacement for a broken splash guard. This would be (on my 31TE) on the inside of the Engine Air intake, an angled plastic piece that prevents water from pouring, splashing into the engine room. Picture of one is attached. During rough seas on my port side broke leaving the engine covered and subsequent issues including damaged throttle , shorted air heater etc. Any help would be appreciated as always.

thanks SJR

Pretty sure Vetus makes a dorade box for that vent but if it were me, especially with the off season fast approaching, I'd take it off and make up a better stronger version in starboard.

Here's the link to the Vetus products..

I picked up one of the original boxes / splash guards on closeout last summer at Hamilton Marine for short money ($25) for a spare just in case mine ever cracked. This summer it did. Those originals, also by Vetus, sure are delicate. Thanks for posting the new replacements Rob. I just might order the newer version fo comparison.

For any future Albin Owners' reference : Real easy fix and worth a preemptive replacement versus the cost of a possible failure in rough weather.

Thanks. The new box is much better, whereas the old one was two if not three or four piece construction, the new ones are a one piece mold. While replacing the old one I also noticed that, not only did the top crack off, the bottom seem where the clear fiberglass meets the base was all split and allowing whatever water to run down the inside side of the boat. The top is also much more protected and more inclosed. I believe its a big improvement, I ordered another to replace the starboard side just to be safe.

(thought this may be helpful, there are a ton of different sizes and they are measured by air flow)
