Yanmar model for 97 28TE?

Post by Neil »

I apologize if this question has been asked before, I'm not finding it. What model yanmar diesel inboard is correct for a 97 28TE. Our beast runs fine, I'm just curious. Thanks for any help.

Do you mean which one is in there now, or what would you use as a replacement?

What model would I use as a replacement if our Penninsular 300hp gave up.

The 28's have used the 315 hp, 6LP2. Some have used Cummins.

If the beast exhaust is port side you will want to look for a Yanmar. I think the Cummins is Starboard side exhaust.

Beast has the exhaust on the starboard side. Your better off replacing the beast with another peninsular.

I didn't realize the exhaust played into the decision , you guys are saving me a lot of time. I really appreciate it. If you ever have any wood related questions I'm happy to give back!

Yanmar 315.jpg
My Albin was repowered from the beast to the Yanmar 315 in 09. My exhaust goes out the starboard side. From the mixing elbow (on the port side of the engine) they ran about 6-7 feet of exhaust hose out to the outlet on the starboard side.

I think the key is if you can get the the gradual fall and not trap water until the muffler no worries... I'm glad someone got it to work and fit!

Max, I can't tell from the picture but do you have a different air filter on there from standard? It almost looks like a K&N filter?

To finish what my phone submitted without permission...

There was a period where Yanmar didn't have a compatible model available. This was a couple of years ago so I suspect things have changed since then.
