Get a Volvo Certified Dealer to check over the engine. Require that they connect the EVC (engine controller) to their Vodia Software tool to see any past or present fault codes. They should also use the software to do an electronic test, similar to a compression test, to test each cylinder seperately and compare the readings of all cylinders. They should be able to give you good information about the engine condition. This would be an engine survey to augment the general survey of the boat.
