Renaming: Knot Really becomes PITOU

When all was said and done ... Copious amounts of rum and champagne were offered to Poseiden, the God of the Sea.

    Knot NY

I see the "real" heat gun on the platform, a hair dryer wouldn't do it?

What was the process? Hopefully I'll be doing the same soon.

Last time I just had to remove the 3" letters of the port-of-call and used a 3M rubber eraser wheel on a drill.

I thought I might get a stir with that first picture!

The heat gun was handy. By setting it on low it softened the glue pretty quickly and with the use of a plastic putty knife the lettering came right off. Very little glue residue was left behind and with the use of some 3M Adhesive Remover and a rag what was left behind came off easily. I followed up with some AwlWash and all was done in less than an hour and a half. Easy, Peasy! 8)

A slight ghosting was left behind so I called AwlGrip tech support and was advised to buff with 3M Ultrafine Perfect It and a 3M Pefect It blue foam pad. The ghosting disappeared and has not yet returned. Fingers crossed.

I hope that you will be soon following suit.

Thanks for that. BTW, where are the bubbly & LPR photos, not that I have any doubt that all was consumed in required quantities...

Kevin, Really nice looking boat, I had to do the same with my DE boat on the stern and both bows. Light heat with a heat gun and a plastic Putty and my son and a lot of patience worked very well. :)

This boy scout never keeps the evidence. A bottle of champagne shared with Poseidon and another shared with the 4 brothers of the wind. And for good measure they all got a little of the black spiced Kraken.

The LPR is for after the sun goes down!

Looking good but where is that great mast you were putting together?

Way to pay attention Russell! I'm working my way through the list. It's all painted up and at home in the garage. I anticipate that installation project will begin next week.

It's been a long commissioning year .. saltwater side completely removed and serviced on the engine and generator / fresh coolant and t-stats too. The shaft seal and stern tube bearing were replaced, prop tuned, outriggers mounted, liferaft mounted, Weaver removable snap davits installed, scrubbed everywhere, replaced leaking shower valves and a triage of other plumbing projects inclusive of replacement of 2 of 3 bilge pumps and floats along with replacing the baiwell pump that was a casualty of the close quarters work of dropping the rudder for shaft removal. A water tank sender is on order too. A fresh water rain leak on the port side from one of the engine room air intake vents onto the battery boxes is on the mend too / gouged out damaged coring preparing for epoxy filler and a new air collector box is on hand for installation under the stainless vent. The airbox had a crack in the bottom which allowed rain water to come in. It took some time to track the source down. The side winows have a channel drain which flows right over the center of the intake vent. I sure wish that vent had originally been set astearn about 7 inches! Same set-up on the starboard side too / no leaks, but will be checking it out in the fall to at the very least seal the balsa coring which was not done!

I really want to get that antenna mast mounted so that I have radar, a VHF that is not handheld and a chartplotter that's not just the Navionics app on my tiny phone screen! The addition of the spotlight will be nice too. ... stay tuned for the mast install update.

Once all of this is finished PITOU will be one clean squared away vessell! 8)

She's looking good Kevin. Like you say though, once she's done she'll be just as you want her. Fisher Price was the same. I planned to do the jobs and electrical 240 volt conversion over a couple of years. As it was, the engine came out, the 110 volt inverter went pop so I bit the bullet and did it all in under a year.

There's isn't a greater feeling in boating than having a boat you know inside out and is a perfect configuration for your needs.

    Cheers to that!!

I'm really looking forward to the mast update. I'm debating having my arch redone (slightly taller and more mount points), having a hardtop made, having a soft top made, new arch and bimini...so many possibilities!!
