Here's an idea of fuel consumption for various RPM. This spring I did a lot of trolling for bass. I would run approx. 1.5 hours at cruise (15 Kts) then troll for 4-5 hours at idle. I did this a couple of weeks then added fuel and did the computations. The average per hour was 2.5 gallons.
On the other end of the scale, after a run up the Hudson at cruising speed I was burning around 8 Gallons/hour. It's amazing what lower RPM will do for fuel consumption.
