Hull design disadvantages

Post by hunttr »

Hello all,I am considering a te 28 and I'm looking for some feedback on the disadvantages of the Albin hull design as far as handling is concerned. All hulls are a trade off and their is no perfect hull. Thanks for any feedback.

The disadvantages of the 28 hull.
[*]The bow is broad with a bit of "tug" design, allowing great interior space. The disadvantage is that it will cause spray to be thown up and onto the windshield. Being a Pilot House design, it's not uncomfortable, but the boat gets wet easily.
[*]The chine at the bow is sharply angled, and not rounded. The disadvantage I'd that when at rest the is a lot of "slapping" noise and can be irritating when trying to sleep.
[*]Interior deck drainage is somewhat poor. Under hatch covers there are drain tubes that are supposed to drain out the transom through hulls. The drain tubes are notorious for leaking and check valves clogging with debris.
That's all that come to mind.

I particularly agree with the deck drain comment. Have a made a change or two but no great impact and frankly there is no solution. Also bilge water collects in the bow below the pumps, but can be handled by installing a stripper.

In general the boat handles very well. Much better than the Silverton pilot house. The skeg protects the prop and, unfortunately also restricts the rate of turn at higher speeds. With the thruster they handle better than a twin screw when manuvering.

Not quite, but I am willing to try. Years ago ships used stripping pumps, to remove the last of liquid cargo. They were smaller, had suctions located lower and were very effective at removing small quantities of cargo, ballast water, etc. Some time ago I posted my solution to this problem which has worked flawlessly for the 10 years it has been installed. Still, I would like to try your suggestion.
