Jabsco marine toilet

I have a manual Jabsco toilet that does not fill with raw water. The thru-hull valves are open and it did work when the boat was last used in the fall. The Jabsco manual states that, "If charging the holding tank with anti-freeze by pumping it through the toilet, use only ethylene glycol based antifreeze. To use petroleum based anti-freeze can cause damage to the internal rubber toilet parts."

I have used the pink stuff for years both with this toilet and another. Ethylene glycol is the stuff that we are told we should not discharge into the waterways or into pump-out facilities. It seems from what quick research that I just did that both anti-freeze products are petroleum based, though the non-toxic variety is sometimes, but infrequently, made from non-petrol stock.

If anyone has some suggestions re the toilet not filling and also the winterization anti-freeze that should be used, please let me know. I know that not all pink colored anti-freeze liquids are the non-toxic type. I used that term because it is familiar to us all.

The joker valve is normally good for about 2 years so replace that. It should be done as routine maintenance. I would replace that and it will likely solve your problem. If it doesn't it's considered a consumable part anyway.

Wow Jay, surprised to hear you have the down and dirty Jabsco head. With all that cabin and the amount of time you spend on the hook I thought you'd have something a little fancier. Something like this perhaps...
