Albin Fan, and looking
Albin Fan, and looking
I am the current owner of a 1977 Broadwater 27' Express cruiser that my Godfather bought NEW in Aug of 1976 from the factory in Mayo, MD. The boat has a Ford Windsor 351 V-8 (1998 re-power from a Ford 305 V-8), and an AS-71C Velvet drive transmission. She will make almost 20 kts with a clean bottom, and lightly loaded. At about 9 kts - comfortable cruise, she burns approx. 4.5 gph. I have reasonably comfortable accommodations for 3, but the boat is showing it's age, and the gel coat on the hull is beginning to spider crack. I think it is time for a newer boat. - I have been looking at Albins for quite some time (years), and in my work for the Navy I occasionally travel from Patuxent River, MD to Newport, Rhode Island. On one of those trips last year, I got to visit the factory in Tiverton, which was quite an experience. I have been looking at the 27 FC models, and the 28 TE, and would like to stay below $40K for the TE, which seems possible with the Peninsular Diesel in the early models, but I have also seen re-powers of the 27 FC that are very reasonably priced. In particular, I am wondering if anyone has experience with performance & fuel burn in the 27' FC model with a 140 hp Yanmar TC, or information on the normally aspirated (non-TC) Peninsular diesels. Like housing, it looks like a good time to be a buyer. I need to sell my old Broadwater, but would welcome ideas or suggestions.
Thanks! - Ted Turner, Hollywood, MD

Welcome to Albin Owners Group.
It would be a stretch to get this one down to 40k. Maybe 48-50k. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2495
I didn't know the Peninsular came without the turbo.
There is another future owner coming to the Rendezvous. You are more than welcome.

Welcome to the group.
As a 13 A27AC owner which had a 100hp naturally aspirated Westerbeke I can tell you that it averaged under 1.5gph & could top out at around 13kts loaded for a multiday weekend. I have also been on an early 90s 27 Sport with a Cummins 210hp. That thing could run like a scared cat. 18kts easy GPS loaded.

In this market if you have cash I don't think any offer is unreasonable. It would be a stretch to get this one down to 40k. Maybe 48-50k. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2495

Ric,
Your right. There is no way to know how motivated someone is. Make an offer.
