Engine Advice

Hi all, I am a new member and actively shopping for an Albin 30 FC.
I love the boat and think it is the right fit for my family.
I have noticed that most either have the Perkins 265 or the Yanmar 315.
Does anyone have any strong feelings about these respective engines?
Also does anyone have any real world stats on max/cruise speed and fuel consumption for the different engines?

Bigger is better, right?
Both brands are reliable and well known. I think the Perkins was standard. If you are not going to keep the boat long, the Yanmar would probably be better for resale.
We have a couple of members with the 30. Hopefully they will jump in.

My gut feeling was to try to find one with the yanmar.
Is there any reason to avoid the perkins, any bad experiences out there?

I had bad experiences several years ago...no so much with Perkins itself, but with the extremely poor support in the Ct area.
WA Kraft was the distributor...they were clueless, and Foley...well I never heard anyone say anything good about them and I agree.

So investigate the local support would be my suggestion, then make a decision. Ask locally and see how long it takes to get a Perkins part, how many times they get the incorrect parts, etc.

There are no local distributors close by but a local yard felt they had no issue with getting parts or concerns about routine maintanence.
