Turbo rebuild

Post by got2dive »

Have a 2001 yanmar 6ly2-ste with 1500 hours mechanic said i should have turbo rebuilt i have no issues with it. Is there a certain amount of hours or years when they should be rebuilt?

Did your mechanic say specifically what is wrong with it? Axial play? End play? Coked bearing? Carboned impellers? Salt water intrusion?
He should know a reason.
Turbochargers can last a very long time, or a very short time. There is no set number of hours.
