Check Your Yanmar for this "what the heck" factory install

Post by Paddy »

This summer, I got roped into using my boat for two shark tournaments, the last being yesterday. As any good and nervous captain, I went over the engine and did as much prep as possible for a 30-40 mile offshore excursion. I came across one issue, the heater hose from the water heater to the engine. It was cracking badly, but what really got my attention was the hose clamp placement. It was not accessible for my engine box model. If the hose went, I was dead in the water. Silly for such an easy repair. In order to fix it, I needed to disconnect the lift shocks and flip the cover back. I then used a Dremmel and wiz wheel to cut the clamp. After that, a new hose / clamp went on with ease. The clamp had to be positioned on top and was only accessible with an 8mm wrench. Either way, I thought I would share my experiences with others so that you can avoid a possible headache due to a silly installation of a clamp.

As for the tournaments, the second was yesterday, and we landed medium sized sharks, 6'-7' blues, browns and makos. Nothing prize winning, so all were released except for one tasty mako!
