FP2 Gets Some New Jewelry
Finally got round to getting some handrails made up - We can just not get on with those American flush mount rod holders! My neck has been killing me for almost two years now!
Anyway, more rod holders to fit tomorrow as work started to interfere with my social life and I've had to head back to the office.

Those look very nice. I really like the way you echoed the roof rails.

Re: FP2 Gets Some New Jewelry
I've tried to make everything look OEM right down to the size of the screw head holding them down. The way the stern rail is designed is the only practical way I could see to fit it and still be able to fit rail mounted rod holders. I've tried to keep it as half cruiser half fishing boat so if I ever had to sell her, I can remove the rod holders from the rails and then she is no longer just a fishing boat.Nancy wrote:Those look very nice. If you don't put rods in the holders, it is no longer a fishing boat!
Nice work.

Re: FP2 Gets Some New Jewelry
good looking rails. my question to you is what issue do you have with flush mounted rod holders? i personally like the gunnels and stern obstruction free when battling
larger fish such as sharks or tuna. still i like the overall stylish looks of your work.
cheers!

Re: FP2 Gets Some New Jewelry
We use much longer rods over here, typically 9-10' long. When we use 50lb stand up tackle for porbeagle and thresher sharking then that would be around 8 1/2' long. You guys use rods, from what I've seen with cranked handles on? Also we do a lot of drift fishing where you want the rod out almost horizontal to keep tangles at a reduction. Landing 100lb plus fish on a 10' rod and 30lb braided line is quite a thrill!special k wrote:good looking rails. my question to you is what issue do you have with flush mounted rod holders? i personally like the gunnels and stern obstruction free when battling

Re: FP2 Gets Some New Jewelry
Interesting you mention porbeagle and not mako?

Tree: Nice job on the rails. I have been fishing on the BC side some. Interesting they also use a much longer rod. The reel is also much like the fly fishing or casting reel. The spool can go out so fast the knobs beat you up a bit. I am learning!

We do get the occasional Mako here but not that often and when I say here - that would be the southwest tip of the UK. Current record stands at 500 lbs and has done for about 30 years.
