Rebuild raw water pump for 4D61

Post by Vic K »

All the rebuild kits I see for the 4D61 Johnson raw water pump only show one seal. Two seals came out of the pump; one on the engine side an oil seal and one on the impeller side a water seal. They were separated by a plastic device. Has anyone on this site actually rebuilt one of these pumps and can set me straight about the seals.
Thanks,

Vic

Just finished overhauling my raw water pump on a 6lpa. The pump is a Johnson and has the same seal configuration with the plastic spacer. The seals were 16x28x7 metric that I sourced from a local bearing supply house. (Fairly common seal) the seals face in opposite directions with the spacer between the faces. There was also a o-ring slinger on the shaft between the seal faces. If you check out "pump vendor" site they have excellent part lists and diagrams for most models

Chuck.
I looked up the diagram for the Johnson pump FSB9 1024119 and it only shows one seal. Am I looking in the wrong place?

FYI: I just got an email from pump vendor and only one seal is in this pump. In the package with the old pump I need to rebuild is the old seal in two parts so it looked like there were two seals.
