Coolant Loss

Post by Froggy »

IMG_2045.jpg
My 1993 28 TE suddenly started losing coolant earlier this fall. A bit of sleuthing identified a leaking heat exchanger as the culprit. I ordered up a cupronickel replacement from Peninsular. Here's a pic of the installation. Work done:

New heat exchanger
New expansion tank
Grounded heat exchanger to engine
New coolant hoses throughout including hoses to the water heater (not the easiest job as the heater is behind the a/c compressor)
Re-fit the feed to the dripless shaft seal from bottom of heat exchanger (subject to plugging from zinc debris) to coolant line
New exhaust hose from mixing knuckle to elbow
Flush and replace coolant

Exhaust knuckle a bit corroded inside will replace over the winter.

Good to go now but coming out of the water next week.

Nice work. Mine has a bit of external corrosion and I may replace soon.
