Two nice finds

Post by Paddy »

Yesterday the shear pin for the thruster let go at the worst possible time during a quick moving in-coming tide and 15MPH+ winds in the same direction helping. With the crazy Sunday boat traffic, I was barely able to swing the boat around in my tight canal and get her into the slip. Went to the marine store at 4:30p on a Sunday and they had Quicksilver aluminum shear pins, 3 for $9 that fit the Vetus perfectly. The pins were meant for older 3-7hp outboards with plastic props.

Planning to leave for our first overnighter on Wednesday, so I was quite relieved to find a quick fix and continue to take the trip as planned. Going to jump in the water to see if any debris is jammed in the tunnel, Sunday was a bad day for seaweed.

The second thing I was looking for was a simple screen for the top of the cabin door slot. Found a 24" x (24" to 45") adjustable wooden screen at Home Depot for $7.48 made by W B Marvin. Slid in perfectly, maybe a small towel for the very small gap, but it will definitely let the air in and bugs out!
