Our 1974 A25 for Baltic summer cruising

Post by Sven_G »

We're full-time cruisers. We sail Senta II, an Ericson '39 fall through spring, currently docked for the summer in Chiapas Marina, Mexico.

During the summers we're cruisers on Bali, our "new" 1974 A25, in the Swedish Baltic archipelago with Västervik as the home port. We bought Bali from Boris a year ago and are very happy we did. Boris had taken great care of her and while she's aged she's aged beautifully. She has a relatively new 19 HP Volvo Penta with about 2000 hours.

We just got and installed brand new canvas and we've also replaced the three 73 Ah batteries, otherwise we've not really had to do anything for the first year. We have some projects on the wish list ....

We want to make the table more practical and are looking to find out what the standard configuration was and how it was used both in the cockpit and in the cabin (as a v-berth filler and as a table). We're also wondering where it is typically stored when not in use.

We're also interested in the standard helm seat configuration and how it interacts with engine access. Bali has some boxes over the engine and next to the engine which make for a nice raised platform at the helm but it makes getting to the engine a real hassle.

So, in short we're really happy to have Bali as our trusty summer boat but expect lots of questions as we personalize her for our needs.

Thanks for the forum.

Hi Sven, and welcome aboard!

I checked out some of your photos, beautiful area that you boat in! Wish you the best of luck with your fine "new" vessel.

Thanks and yes it is a gorgeous area for summer boating.

I think Bali will continue to be perfect for us and she's been really well cared for so our "restoration" project will probably be mostly in the cosmetic and upgrade area. Now we just hope the weather warms up a bit :-)
