Aerial view of our favorite anchoring cove on Lake Pleasant

Post by DesertAlbin736 »

This is such a cool video I thought I'd share with AOG folks. This is of last week's Lake Pleasant Sailing Club raftup celebrating Cinco De Mayo holiday (really just an excuse to have fun and drink Margaritas). It was filmed with one of those new 4 rotor UAV craft that one of our members recently purchased. Records video that can be transmitted to a smart phone and seen by the operator in real time and saved as a file that can later be posted on Youtube.

We were not there this time because we had out of town company arriving at the same time these boats were anchoring. But this location is one of our favorite anchorages on Lake Pleasant, located about 30 miles Northwest of Phoenix. Though not the official name, we call this "Porta Potty Cove" after a floating outhouse barge that is anchored near the entrance for fish and ski boaters to have somewhere available to "take care of business".

If you look closely at the line of five boats in the video, one of which is a Sea Dory 22, you can see a red inflatable dinghy tied to the stern of one of the sailboats. That's one of our dinghies, which we loaned to the group for the occasion.

Sadly, attendance has dropped dramatically over the past few years, as this event use to attract a couple dozen boats or more, all arranged in a circle.

This is what Cinco De Mayo "sunflower" raftups used to look like back in the day. Aging membership and the economy have taken their toll.
