rudder packing

Post by sail410 »

I am tightening the rudder packing on my 28, but can't get the lock nut loose. I am turning it clockwise looking from above to loosen the lock nut. Is that correct? Then I tighten the top again clockwise and bring the lock nut back up against it counter clock wise. I think I am correct but just want to check.

Slack the bottom off first, then tighten the top - both will go the same direction effectively in a clockwise direction looking downwards towards the bilge.

Mine was a pig to get moving at first so I covered it in penetrating fluid the day prior to tackling the job.
