Oil Change (variance to manual)

I have a 1989 27FC with Isuzu 6cyl non-turbo 157 hp engine.....the manual says 27qts of oil live in this engine....but all I could get out was 8 qts...anyone know if they changed the oil pan for marinization??

(I used vacuum through the dipstick)

I think there must be a typo in the manual - 27 qts would be close to 6 gallons of oil and that would be impossible!!
