Victron Cyrix battery combiner
I just added a Cyrix battery combiner ($50.00 Jamestown Distributers) between my 4D starting battery and (2) 4D house batteries. Not that I ever forget to manually switch them It handles 120A and my alternator is 100A. Installation was easy. I'll let you know how it works out, but is seems like a good solution. The unit is bidirectional, so whenever one battery bank is being charged, it is connected to the other. When one bank begins to discharge, they are disconnected from each other. By the way, the Victron website has tons of interesting (or sleep-inducing) information on battery/inverter/genset/shorepower theory and practice.
