Mystery Hose

Post by James Grant »

Good Morning

I was poking around in the dark space last night and found a hose approximately 1-1/2 to 2 " in diameter - black - wrapped with a clear mylar plastic wrap it appears on the right side of the engine looking forward. It comes out of the right side rear engine wall and travels forward towards the generator - I wasn't able to trace it past there yet. I am looking to replace it and wonder if anyone else has the same hose ( I suspect someone does) and what it's for - my first guess would be the shower drain ?

Thanks

Grant

My aft shower drains to bilge or sump - a black hose that size, wrapped makes me thing "black water" - aft head to holding tank?

EVERY original hose (and copper tube) in my boat is wrapped in clear plastic so don't "assume" it is black water.

On my 36 DC that is the tub/shower drain that runs to the shower sump just in front of the engine. If you lift open the 2 floor hatches in the aft cabin you can see where it makes a 90 degree turn towards the tub.

In my 36' that is the perfect description for the aft cabin head to holding tank hose.

On my boat, a 43 Sundeck, and if I understand the description, my guess is that it is a hose that goes forward to the bilge and when connected to a screened pickup is used as an emergency bilge pump.

Mine is coming from the forward bilge and the end of the hose stops at the engine, it isn't connected.

That's my 2 cents.

On my 1980 36 DC, there's two of these on the Starboard side.
1), running in the central well (mid-ship area between the main, lengthwise running ribs) is the shower drain, on it's way to the shower sump, just forward of the main engine.
2) running under the fuel tank (so it's outboard of that main rib) is the aft head hose running to the holding tank, which is forward of the shower sump.

My generator covers the shower sump... sits right on top of it.
I was able to cut the floor boards just in front of the generator and thereby access the top of the holding tank. I can do photos if you want. just ask.
