28 or 31TE

My wife and I have shortened the shopping list to either a 28 or 31TE.
We much like the additional space of the 31 but it would be a tight fit in our slip. Also there is very few 31's available on the west coast, and single vs. twin engines. Peninsular? My first choice is a 31 with single Cummins.

I think you have a single 450 Cummins, was it your first choice or was it what you found and is the 31 a shorted 35?

Oh break down & find yourself a 32+2. Your Admiral will love you for it. Mans boat on the outside. Very much a womans cruising boat on the inside. I have no idea what the beam difference between the 31TE & the 32+2. The 32+2 is 12'4". The Cummins 370hp is fairly common in later 90s & early 00s boats.

Our boat is actually a 36' Express Trawler with a 420hp Caterpillar 3126B. I believe the hull is similar to the 35' Tournament Express and the 35' Command Bridge, but other than that, they're quite different boats.

The single engine was our first choice as there are a lot of logs in the water here in the winter and that provides the best protection from a log strike. Also, it provides better fuel economy.

I'm not really comparing the 32 to the 28. Very different boats in size & layouts. There are a few things in the larger boats that the Admirals like such as a shower stall, a queen sized berth, big galley, lots of fresh water etc.

Foot for foot we never found another 27 designed for family cruising as good as our Albin 27AC. Kept it 13 years. Likewise the 32+2 is a great boat for a couple who want to cruise in comfort without going really big & big $$$.

We just built a nice 31' TE with a 500 hp Cummins. It looks like it is headed to Annapolis. If you are interested, I can forward the listing to Bellingham YS and you can see how it is spec'd out. If you want it, we have another on the line that can go to Annapolis.

I have a 31 with a 450 Cummins, as do at least 2 others on this board. I cruise at 18 - 19 knots, and burn about 17 GPH at cruise. I can troll all day and the fuel gauge doesn't budge.

I love the 28, but like the size of the 31 better, especially the separate shower stall and the big cockpit.

I have a lot of experience with both boats, so I'll be happy to answer any questions.

For the most part, I love everything about the 28 TE. I spent well over a year looking at many different types of vessels and for me it was the perfect boat in all but one way......I really wish it was a tad bit bigger....like the 31 TE. I'm a really big guy and a tad bit bigger everything would be really nice. I like the single engine, especially when it comes to service. I don't do any long distance ocean runs, and I have the unlimited towing service from Sea Tow. I honestly don't feel unsecure with a single engine. After owning the 28 for going on three years I can honestly say I would change very little about the design, performance and sea keeping ability.....I would however love it to be a tad bit bigger.
