Timing Belt Job

Post by jumpjet231 »

I just had my timing belt replaced at 700hrs and 8 years. It was a $1000 job on my flush deck with the mechanic lying on top of the engine using a mirror on the front. The timing belt that came off looked like it just came off the shelf at Mack B. Oh well, better safe than sorry. This has been an expensive summer for Wave-off. My DSM 250 sounder module just died as well.

Was that the first belt that came off at 700 hours? I sometimes question whether the average rpm can lead to longer life or whether age alone can affect the working life of that belt.

I bought the boat when it was 4 years old so I'm pretty sure it's the first belt.
