I went to Lowes and got a couple boxes of strips of heavy synthetic wood. Its grained and textured, looks really sharp and is not slippery. The strips are peel and stick. I figure I can replace it in 5 or so years if it doesnt hold up to the kids..

The roller is from west marine, not too expensive but solved my self launch issues.

I like the self launch idea - typically here in the UK there is nowhere that sells them so i've had to manufacture my own!
