anchor windlass

Post by sharffj »

For those you have 31 TE what anchor windless do you have on your boats? I have been told that the Lewmar V700 which I presently have does not have the power to handle the boat. Thanks

It's not so much "handling the boat" as it is about handling the anchor and chain, since you shouldn't be using the windlass to pull the boat, just to retrieve the rhode and anchor as you motor up to it. A windlass and it's gypsy are usually sized to a particular line and chain. So, if you're good with your ground tackle and it fits your windlass you're ok. If you want to up the size of your tackle you would need to make a change in your windlass.

The Lewmar V700 fits 1/4" G4 or BBB chain. I believe 1/2" line, but I'm not sure.

And you are supposed to be cleating off once you're set.
