Cetol color

Post by Nancy »

I'm 98% certain that the interior trim in our boat is finished with Cetol. Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what color it is? The trim at the main hatch was sanded by the previous owner and is ready for re-coating. I'd just as soon match what's already there or at least come close.

That does not look like Cetol to me. Not enough "orange" color.

I agree. Whenever I used Cetol, which I really like, it had more gloss. I use teak oil on mine. Much easier.

I agree that it doesn't look like the original Cetol (Cetol Marine). But there are two newer colors: Marine Light and Marine Natural Teak. The reason I think it's Cetol is that there are spots where it's also on the adjacent fiberglass :( and it, like all Cetol on fiberglass, it doesn't want to come off.

If it's not Cetol, what do you think it is?

If you have a good local paint store (not the big chain stores, HD, Lowes, etc) you could bring one of the 2 table tops with wood edge, or maybe the bathroom door, and get an opinion and they should have sample boards too. Just a thought. Are you more concerned with matching color or sheen?

Hmmm.....Trying to remember if in my 5 years (of pretty much disasesmbling and reassembling the enitre boat) there was any of that same wood that I found unfinished and hidden that you could use for test purposes. The only thing I recall was this nailer board behind the vertical upholstered panel over the opening at the aft bunk. It appears to be a scrap of the same wood, maybe..

Turns out it's Cetol Light. I tested a small section today, and there's no doubt.
