Prop & shaft anti fouling

Has anyone used out drive spray anti fouling on your props/shafts?

I use it on rudder, tabs, bearing housing and thruster and bronze thru hulls but not shaft or prop, never found the need.

I used Pettit's Zinc barnacle coat on my props and shafts last year and it worked reasonably well. On a 35 I have a lot more shaft exposed than I did on the 28 and we're in a high growth area so I was glad I'd painted them. The high pressure areas of the props blew the paint off, but the same was true of any offending little critters.

This year I went with a primer and lower unit/prop paint as I'm thinking with my new work situation I may not get as many runs in as I did last year.

Both years I primed the rudders and trim tabs and painted them with bottom paint.

This year I am trying a zinc paint I bought from McMaster Carr. Has 93% zinc just like the Petit....but it was only $17 for a 1/2 pint.
It came highly recommended by a friend out of Noank who used it last season.

I will second the vote for Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier 1792 paint. I had to replace my props last fall so I painted both with the zinc paint. I dove on the boat last weekend and the props were still almost spotless, while the rest of the running gear looked like a coral reef. (worst fouling I have seen over the winter months in the lower Chesapeake Bay). The next season I have it all hauled out, I plan on doing all the running gear with a zinc paint.
There are many other reviews about this product, and some not so good, but as for me, it works better than any other conventional antifouling bottom paint.

Third for pettit zinc spray 1792. My marina recommended it to me a year ago. No growth at all at pull out and at $30 for a spray can, the price is right. I might just get three seasons out of one can.
