28TE transport

Post by Nancy »

We're excited - we have a 1995 28TE under deposit. We're investigating how to transport from Virginia to Vermont. My burning question at the moment is whether this requires a full size tractor or whether a big pickup (1-ton? dually?) can do the job. I sure don't want the tail to wag the dog.

Thanks--

I believe they weigh something like 8500/9000 lb. If that's true then a decent pickup should be able to handle that without much problem. I know my ex, a 91 Dodge/Cummins 3/4 ton single had a capacity of 16,000 lb. Newer trucks have more capacity. You'll need a trailer with a good braking system wired to the cab and not be in a hurry.

I recently had my 28te transported from MD to NJ . The tow rig was a Ford pickup with an air suspension trailer. The driver told me he was bringing a thirty footer back. So its just more miles. I believe the air suspension trailer is better for the boat because it because it dosent take a beating and offloading is easier as you wont need a lift. Hope this helps. Bob

Thanks for all the info. I'd be glad to have names of transporters you've been happy with.

I had my 35' Command Bridge moved from Miami to Deal MD by Cove Point Marine Transport (1 boathauler@comcast.net) They are a small family run business and they took care of the permits and everything. They showed up in Miami exactly when they said and delivered it to my marina exactly when they promised. I know they go up and down the East coast, but I am not sure how far north. Their phone # is 800-742-1301
Good Luck

We had our 28TE transported form Annapolis to Cleveland. It was shipped by large transport truck and trailer.
Our shipper had to remove the radar dome for proper clearance. He said most other times the props were removed and the boat would sit down lower on the trailer.

Outside of shipping prior a holiday,(large loads must be off highways one day prior to that holiday), things went quite well.
