A lot depends on the temp outside. Colder temps seem to bring more initial smoke. Does it go away after byou are at operating temps? Also the color reveals a lot (white, black, blue?)

Where are you from? Cold? Does it go away when at operating temp?

I was out with my buddy fishing on his 28 Albemare with Cats. He was blowing excessive black smoke and the culprit was a hole in his exhaust sytem. The smoke was being sucked in by the turbo which created havoc and hence the black smoke. Just a thought.

It may also be from the injectors. I had the same problem before and got my injectors checked. They were pretty worn out and I had them replaced. The black smoke was reduced by 80% after I replaced them.

Alternatively you can have your injectors serviced and cleaned if they are still in good shape.

Hope this helps!
