New owner, Hull # 288, 36 DC trawler

Hello to the group!
Delivered this wonderful boat from Portsmouth NH to Boothbay ME last weekend. My first large power yacht (former sailor, S2 9.2C), it will take some time to get used to.
Confused 5' seas and 16 hours later, we made it home. Tired, but very happy with our new boat. With bow-rail (slightly) under conditions, we still found the ride reasonable. [now, don't ask about the microwave that tried to fly off the counter, etc].
The survey came up "no faults" clean; but the ride home revealed badly leaking windshields. I would love to hear recommendations on repairing these...appears to be a major task.
Also, night-nav revealed that the instrument lamps are way to bright. Any Ideas?

I've enjoyed the group since I found it 3 months ago while shopping for a trawler. There is an S2 owners group that's been as supportive over the years; so I look forward to this.
I have not found a "how to" archive here at AOG... I believe there's a place for this feature, but only on the old S2 site hosted by Sailnet have I ever seen it. It's more work for the moderators, but when a well written contribution detailing a repair is submitted, it was great to have it kept in a well-indexed archive.

Great looking fine. A windshield leak won't be the end of the world and sounds iike you had an interesting trip back. I like the style of the 36 Trawler's. Looks to be in near perfect condition. Enjoy.

I disagree with my friend Howards claim that a window leak isn't the end of the world. (He has one of those plastic plate Albins ). On the classics a water leak is not good especially if you throw fresh water at it like when you wash it.
I haven't had to address leaks yet. (Previous owner did) but I've seen a number of threads here on removing and rebedding or replacing windows.
Your 36 is a great boat. I'm sure your going to love it

Congratulations and welcome to the forum! We are also former sailors who are now enjoying the good life on an Albin. We absolutely love Boothbay Harbor and visit there every year. What a gorgeous area with so many wonderful places to go to in a boat!

Well, Roy I did not intend to make little of the water issues. Actually have had the problems with some past boats and they are not fun and diffiicult to resolve. But the boat looks so great I had to put the "water leak" in prospective. Capt we all agree your 36 is a beauty, but we all will have sometime to tinker with if it is a boat. Roy likes to tinker just look at the fine job he has done.

Came down the inside of Barters after a night on the hook in the Oven Mouth last summer and was dropping my outriggers to pass under the Trevett Bridge & the bridge operator hailed me to see if I wanted an opening. I told him it wasn't necessary as I was dropping my gear. He responded " relax, leave them up, I'm opening for you". Wow, I've never had a bridgeman hail me before or show such courtesy! Then a little further down we passed through the Gut Swing Bridge, I sure wish the woman had a tip bucket ... it was hot & steamy.

Before you re-bed all your glass, check the gasket seal in the middle opening window. If it is worn, it will let an enormous amount of water in, especially in rough seas. Otherwise, re-bed the glass. Water will make a mess of your interior teak panels.

Nice looking boat, I also have a 36 ft DC. The radar arch and canvas on the fly bridge are interesting, I have a bimni on mine but rarely use it, like to be in the sun. Leaky windows are a real challenge, you will figure it out though. Any water coming in from around the rudder box ? Mine leaks badly there, This spring will find me grinding and re-glassing back there. Otherwise I love the boat. I was brought up on Chris Craft twins so it took a bit of a learning curve to get used to the single Lehman, fortunately I have a bow thruster. I swung it into a tight space last fall in reverse and the dock hand commented on my ability, He said he was really impressed on how I handled it into the spot, until he got closer and heard the destinctive "growl" of the thruster, called it "cheating", Oh well...

PPMELS: Cheating is okay and fully approved in my book. All the toys that make your boating fun and easy is wonderful. I see the local commercial crabbers out my way come into the slips under the worst possible conditions on a single engine and no thrusters, but they fish around the calendar and get to be great. We are allowed to enjoy all the help. You are just putting yourself on equal terms with the 36' owners with the twin Lehmans. Personally we can be happy and proud everytime we make a suceess approach without dinging the hull.
