Hi Folks
This is a learned lesson for anyone changing out their Oil Sender unit. Last year my oil sender unit on my one Yanmar 6LP-STE failed. Being a good owner I consulted my Yanmar engine parts manual and discussed with my Yanmar certificated mechanic, after which I ordered part number 119773-91501, which I received and installed myself. Instead of showing the correct pressure it pegged out the gauge at the top end of the scale >150 psi. I discussed with the Yanmar mechanic who indicated that I likely shorted it out during installation and that I should order another one, which I blindly did. I was thinking it was a faulty part but the mechanic/supplier indicated that because it was an electronic component they don't take returns because their consensus is I did something wrong and buggered it up when I installed it myself. I installed the newer replacement sender unit and low and behold had the same problem.
This past summer I casually mentioned my dilemma to a diving buddy of mine, who is also a marine mechanic. He indicated that it was likely the oil sender unit output was not matched to the oil pressure gauge, which was a Beede. After researching further and consulting with a Beede technical representative, this conclusion was likely the case. I ordered the correct oil sender unit and installed. Problem SOLVED!!!.
I am a bit perturbed the Yanmar certified mechanic did not pick-up on this issue.
I now have two slightly used Yanmar oil sender units. If anyone is interested let me know. I was thinking of posting on Ebay later this fall if there is no interest.

Re: Learned Lesson - Oil Sender Replacement for 6LP-STE
According to my Yanmar parts list, sender unit 119773-91501, is also the replacement for sender unit 119773-91500. Hope this increases the marketability of your units…
What is the correct sender unit to use when there is a Beede gauge involved? Do you have any technical specs, in the OHMS range, for Yanmar vs Beede?
Have fun,

Re: Learned Lesson - Oil Sender Replacement for 6LP-STE
The sender unit number was 127437. This matched up to the Beede gauge #790856 11409. The Gauge number was located on the back of the gauge, which I had to disconnect to get at.
Bottom line need to cross check when Yanmar gauges are not used.
Cheers
