Awlgrip question

Post by Legacy »

Yes, it's finally time. Despite some noble efforts over the past 4 seasons, my 1998 dark blue hull is embarrassingly faded and clouded over that no amount of heavy duty compound and wax can make her look nice anymore. Thought about wet sanding and waxing but believe it's beyond that now. I'm going to Awlgrip her. My question is: Can I go quite a bit lighter than my formerly very dark hull hull?

Having mine done now and the primer is a light silver gray so I'm sure you could lighten up without a problem.

Absolutely! The grey primer will cover the dark blue and then use any color you want. Remember that the darker the color, the quicker it will fade over time

My Awlgrip is great. Just be sure to get alittle extra (free leftover?) paint for future touch ups if you kiss the dock or an anchor ding, Etc.

Always a good plan!

What color are you thinking of? Fighting Lady Yellow? :) I was just looking at some pics I took of Legacy on my trip to Boston last year...really has me pinning for Spring!

Spring can't get here soon enough! Plastic comes off around April one, then a haul for the painting, zincs and bottom paint. Tuned props and shafts last year. Very good thing to do. Looking at the Awlgrip color charts - - my wife is looking at a pale blue. I forget the actual color. Very manly however! We are also updating the light fixtures on the main salon, changing the current white table top to one of teak and a few other cosmetic fixes. Maybe next year all new electronics (That can be expensive with two help stations!) Hopefully Legacy is totally ready by tax day - - that's when we see the first stripers show here in Boston. Also looking at clearing our calendar and going to the rendezvous, really want to see your new ride!

Agree primer color will pretty much let you do what ever you want;

See post below for some pictures of the primer color.
