Albin @ Newport Boat Show

Post by AdvantageYS »

For those of you in the Northeast, Albin will be exhibiting at the Newport International Boat Show this weekend. The Albin 28TE Newport Edition at the show has been built by C&C Marine, so you'll have a chance to see the improved quality of the new builder. Stop in and say hi!

Thanks for the update Doug, that's good news.

Do you know if they'll also be at the Norwalk show? Albin IS listed as an exhibitor. And it's for an in-water slot, certainly implies a boat will be there!

Kenny from Standish will be at both Newport & Norwalk this month with the 28TE. Matt and I were planning on Norwalk but looks like we are going to Newport this Friday instead..

Hello there, I am a member from eastern Canada . I hope to be visiting the Newport show on Saturday or Sunday. It will be a long drive so I hope it is worth it. Maybe I will see some of you at the Albin location at the show.

I went to the Newport Boat Show today and got the impression there is considerable confusion over status of Albin Boats. Standish Marine was there with a nice 28 built by Northcoast/C&C, but there was also an Albin 46 at the show represented by <> Yacht Brokers.

The <> salesman I chatted with on the Albin 46 said Fred Peters is starting up Albin again and intends to make all the boats in the line, including the 28, 31, and both 35 models. He wasn't sure where the 28/31/35 would be built in the U.S., but said the decision would be made within 60 days.

The larger boats -- the North Sea 40 and the 45 Command Bridge and new 46 Sedan are being built in Taiwan now, not China. The 46 Sedan at the show looked pretty good actually, much better than the Albins built in China.

Ken Hilton from Standish said C&C/Northcoast was negotiating for the remaining molds and tooling, but it sounds as if the future of the Albin line is very much up in the air.

Hey Joe,

I looked that over again and as best I can tell that was an individual suing for the delivery of a single boat, most likely right as Albin folded up operations. The information in the post above implies a whole bunch of different possible directions for the manufacture of the Albin line and would seem to me to stand apart from the lawsuit.

I have a friend who has some family ties to the Peters'. I'll be seeing her at the Norwalk show, see what I can find out.

This morning I spoke to Charlie Tasso of C&C Marine (Northcoast). Charlie handles the marketing and advises that they are 100% committed to the Albin line and that it is NOT up in the air. The 28's are currently being built. The 31TE, 35TE and 35CB are next to be built.

The quality, fit and finish of the 28TE at Newport looked top notch and Kenny from Standish confirmed same

Hey DougSea, how about a NEW 35TE !

Doug:

The common denominator in my response to Powerboat56 was that of the yacht broker, not Albin. Powerboat56 is doing due diligence in attempting to find out if the salesman’s statements are true. Reading between the lines – buyer beware…

Your contact will perhaps clarify the issue.

Have fun,
Joe
