After a great summer with our new old 94 28 , a big learning curve for a first time FG and bigger boat owner. Still trying to figure out how to get at some of that equipment under the deck . A couple of curve balls and a couple of extra thousand and we made a enjoyable summer of it . So far 55 hrs on the engine since July 1st. Every time something went wrong ,I got the ribbing --YOU BOUGHT A SALT WATER BOAT WHAT DO YOU EXPECT .The bugs are working out ,after her sitting for 2 years . She is well liked ,most people comment on her lines and how she handles a sea .
Fall is here on the Great Lakes . The cold front that come out of the praires when Earl went up the coast ,took the heat and summer away . Last week we had SW and W gales and now a bit of wind every day Avg 20 kts the past week with the normal light wind at dawn and dusk .Hoping to leave the old girl in to the end of Oct . She will spend the winter beside my garage where the work will start . I have Jan, Feb and March off since the sea way closes ,all us Great Lakes sailors love winter off. And this is when I change hats ,off with the Masters Hat and on with the Chief Engineers hat to get things done on the old girl.
Evan with a busy summer at work we got lots of hrs on the boat . I should thank my good American friends for some of this ; a boat load if not 2 per week of wind turbines for the US mid west .
I do have a question which started this post before I started to ramble on [ is this a Albin owner thing ] I have been asked many times" how many" 28, s were built. Since they ae not seen up here very much ,this is the question that comes up at the BS table at our un offical yacht club .
Hope you all had a great summer , I am lookng forward to season two on my boat . Wife says I am crazy -37 years working on the Lakes and now where are we spending our R&R time .

Great post and thanks for the update. One thing is for sure, we all love boating, no matter what we do for a living. And, we all love our Albins.
As to your question about how man were built? I don't know. Perhaps someone with a newer model can check his HIN and give us an idea.

New question . Bimini tops . Is there a stardard size you can order fo a 28 or are they custom made . When I install one I would like it to fold forward when not in use . And at the same time not blocking the access to walking forward on the boat . Any body have suggestions . Also I am going to replace the drop dwn curtain at the back of the pilot house .Are there any suggestions on do,s and don,ts on how to have them designed . eg door location , snaps ,zipper location , how they stow when not in use . The reason I ask is that 2 local canvas makers have asked me these questions.
Also I did find a article saying that there where over a thousand 28,s built ,but no fixed number .

I believe that somewhere around 1000 28TE have been made to this point. Quite an impressive run for a boat.

Thx for the come back Fellows . Also Dave thx for the offer but I would like to replace with new ,because I have noticed they can get brittle with age. Great web site Doug Thx a Million. And I will try and keep in mind the advice on topics .I always enjoy Ric,s postings and photos . I would love to try the fishing that he does . Next year we will be set up with Dwn Riggers for Walleye and Lake and Rainbow Trout.
With any luck tomorrow is my last day on the Detroit - St Clair River tour .Move one more ship then home . My wife and friends have been checking our boat . We have had a lot of wind for Sept on the lakes . And the water has been going up and dwn with the wind almost like a tide .
It is called a Seiche . When the wind push,s a body of water on a lake causing water levels to increase on the way the wind is blowing and to decrease on the other . We had 45 kts of West and Sw wind on Friday causing the water levels at the west end of L . Erie to drop 25 inchs and increase at the east end by 36in. This caused at least a dozen ships to anchor waiting for enough water to transit the bottom of the Detroit River . This may not seem like alot but when you have ships loaded to 26 ft 6 in and only have 18 in under the keel in the lower Detroit on a normal day ,any drop in water levels makes a Captain sit up and take notice. But you fellows on the coast with tides know all about it and deal with it more than us fresh water boat drivers .
