Tach connection?

How and where does the tachometer get it's reading? Mine is not working (bridge or fly) but the hour meter still works. I think it's where ever it connects to the engine being the problem....but I can't find it!

Tachs usually connect to the alternator. They get an AC signal specifically for a tach. The hour meter part is usually simply a clock works that runs whenever there is DC power on.

I figured that was hour the hour meter worked (just clock time), But where on the alternator is the hookup? Armature or Field? I don't see any "extra" lines connected so I'm figuring is somewhere down stream. Which would be the proper connection A or F? I could always tap into the system somewhere but which line. I know right now it's a 50/50 chance but I'd like to narrow it down. Any ideas? I did a line check off the tach connection but since both tachs are out it's got to be well before they interconnect at the wiring board.

It is one of the small wire connections, probably a brown wire, maybe purple. Not a red or black for sure.
If you had a picture of the back of your alternator I could probably show you.
Most likely the connection is bad. Next check the ground to all your gages.

My tach connection is located on the Transmission.

Are you sure it's on the transmission not the belhousing? Many have a proximity sensor on the bellhousing that count flywheel teeth.
