Cutless bearing replacement

Cutless bearing replacement
Does anyone have any advice on the do's and don't on changing the cutless bearing on a Classic 36 trawler.

I've never had to remove the bearing, but I can tell you that the external bronze housing is threaded on mine. The yard mechanic almost destroyed it by trying to pull/hammer it off.
