We're a family of four in Rhode Island very much enjoying our brand new (2009) Albin 28 TE. We made our first significant cruise with "Sputnik" last weekend to Block Island and it was a dream. This is our third boat, which we've had our eye on for a few years now. We had every expectation of buying a used 28, but ultimately stumbled across a brand new model at Standish Boat Yard in Tiverton, RI. The major components of our boat were built in the old Albin factory, next door to us in Portsmouth, RI. Final assembly was performed by Bladen in North Carolina. Ken and Ed at Standish did very significant re-work to bring it up to their very high standards. In addition to their vast knowledge of this boat, they've been an incredible pleasure to deal with.
Sputnik is the last Albin 28 produced so far, but we hope not the last ever. The attached article (if I've done this properly) surprised us when it appeared in our local newspaper, the Newport Daily News, a couple of days ago. As stated in the article, we too have heard rumors that something is brewing for a re-start of the Albin line.
